A group under the auspices of Coalition of Arewa Youth Groups (CAYG), has alleged that the Director General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Abubakar Rufai, has under performed in his duties leading to refusal of other sister agencies to collaborate with him, costing the nation lack of interagency relationships to fight insecurity. The group called on President Buhari to as a matter of urgency,
A communique issued at the end of the Coalition meeting in Kaduna on Sunday and made available to New Nigerian alleged that due to the high ego of Amb. Ahmed, he spent his tenure suppressing staff instead of going for unity, adding that he is bound to do more as reappointed but because he has run out of ideas and visions to drive the agency forward.
The communique was issued by Dr. Kabir Dan-Azumi, Comr. I B Bala and Mal. Iliyasu Danlad, Chairman, Secretary, Communique drafting committee and Coalition of Arewa Youth Groups.
The communique observed, “Under Amb. Ahmed, the aim of the formation of National Intelligence Agency (NIA), responsible for foreign intelligence and counterintelligence operations has been defeated.”
The meeting noted, “We hereby pass a vote of no confidence on Amb. Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, director General national intelligence agency. We call on him to voluntary resign and leave better hands to pilot the affairs of the agency as that will serve as act of Patriotism from his part.”
The group also called on President Buhari to as a matter of urgency terminate the appointment of Amb Ahmed as the DG NIA and replace him with a better and qualified person as seen in the case of Sen. Ifeanyi Ararume.
The meeting stated that if nothing is done by President Buhari, they would be left with no option than to come out en masse to show their greviances and demand the sack of Amb.Ahmed and as well write to foreign nations that they should not trust a man of his character.
The group then appealed to the National Assembly, office of the National security advicer and all relevant authorities to save the NIA for the purpose of National interest which supersede personal interest.
The group also stated that no amount of threat or victimization would deter them from carrying on with their actions for it is better to die a hero than to die a coward.
The communique alleged that the staff of the NIA are seriously complaining that Amb. Ahmed Rufai is not using seniority and hierarchy in his appointment into key positions in the National Intelligence Agency.
According to the communique, “Mr President is being passive as a sentimentalist due to this appointment, as must security agencies are been headed by Northerners, this would have been the opportunity to clear the image of Mr President by bringing in a southern into his security architecture.
“The appointment is causing internal crises in the agency and the agency is heading to failure and losing out in it mandate.”
