A male teacher with the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Oyo, Alayoteti Oyebode was on Friday, arraigned before an Oyo State Family Court for allegedly defiling a 14-year old student of the college.
The teacher was subsequently ordered by the court to be remanded at the Abolongo Correctional Custody in Oyo Town, pending hearing of case on August 18.
Oyebode was arraigned before the court on a one-count charge of allegedly having unlawful sexual intercourse with a 14-year- old student of the college.
At the arraignment of the teacher, his counsel, Barrister Tunde Oluponna declared that the accused was charged for rape rather than defilement of the child.
The Investigating Police Officer (IPO) Kehinde Afolabi on his part, informed the court that the prosecuting counsel never brought a rape case before the court, rather a case involving a minor which is purely defilement.
Justice Adetunyibi after listening to the two parties, asked the prosecuting counsel to do further investigation on the allegation against the school teacher and return to the court on the adjourned date to substantiate its claims that the accused defiled a 14-year old student.
Justice Adetunyibi then ordered that the FGGC teacher be remanded at the Abolongo correctional centre, in Oyo Town.
The judge adjourned the matter till August 18, 2022 for hearing.
