FG takes ‘War Against Corruption’ to tertiary institutions

To curb corruption, President Mohammadu Buhari has ordered the implementation of Treasury Single Account (TSA) in tertiary institutions across the country.
This was made known at the 27th Convocation ceremony of Federal University of Technology (FUT), Akure at the weekend by Prof. Julius Okojie of National University Commission who represented the President.
According to him, TSA was introduced for a good cause since the issues involved in the implementation are being addressed to a logical conclusion.
While urging the leadership of the universities to ensure prudence, accountability, transparency and delivery of value for money all the time, he assured that Government on its part will endeavour to provide all the necessary support required by Universities.
He however reiterated the ”Zero tolerance to corruption” adopted by his administration’s full determination to live by example by obeying the laws through transparency, accountability, just, fair and demonstration of integrity in all affairs.
In his speech at the occasion, the Pro– Chancellor of the University, Dr. Mohammed Shata said the principal focus of their administration in areas of corruption and Security have started yielding positive results especially, the fight against insurgency and terrorism.
He charged all graduants, irrespective of class, to see their certificate as a challenge to bring about a new order in the society as ambassadors of the University in their various vocations of calling.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Adebiyi Daramola disclosed that the University has turned out a total of 4,435 students for the 2014/2015 Academic year.
He gave the break down to include 73 with Ph. D, 743 Masters Degree, Post Graduate Diploma (PGD), 2675 in First Degree category while 115 secured Diploma Certificates.
To boost their technological standard, Prof. Daramola said the institution management has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a number of reputable universities, other reputable organizations and industries across the globe.
