Emir of Ilorin, Sets Up  Committee  To Regulate  Prices Of Food Items

The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has established a committee known as the Islamic Youth Scholar of Ilorin Emirates to oversee the pricing of food items in markets within the Ilorin metropolis. 

This initiative aims to prevent traders from unfairly raising prices, especially during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement issued by the chairman of the committee,    Maolaana Sheikh Abdul Fathai Arowolo Magaji, the chief Imam of Ojatuntun and Amir Majililis Shabab l Ulamah of Ilorin  made available   to the newsmen in Ilorin, the committee’s mandate was outlined. 

It informed that they will conduct regular inspections of markets in Ilorin to identify traders who purchase food items at lower prices and subsequently increase their prices. 

The Emir emphasized the importance of maintaining reasonable prices, highlighting that such practices are not in line with Islamic principles, particularly during Ramadan.

The statement also urged traders to adhere to ethical standards and refrain from exploiting consumers by inflating prices. 

The committee’s efforts are driven by the belief that fair pricing aligns with the teachings of Islam and fosters a sense of social responsibility within the community.

“Emir’s decision to form this committee reflects a commitment to promoting economic fairness and ensuring that all members of the community can access essential food items without facing exorbitant costs.

 “The committee is expected to commence its monitoring activities immediately, with a focus on upholding ethical business practices during Ramadan and beyond,” it said.

The markets include,  Ojatuntun ,Oja Oba, Mandate Market and Ipata Market Ilorin, Kwara State.
