Police operatives in Delta State have reportedly apprehended two suspected armed robbers with two firearms, New Nigerian Newspapers has learnt.
Similarly, a total of 130 live cartridges were also recovered by operatives within the same period.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe made the disclosure in a statement on Saturday.
He disclosed that the suspects, identified as, Joshua Oweke, 35 years old of Gbulebu community in Edo State and Nicolas Binakey 25 years old of First Road Akenfa in Bayelsa State, were arrested on 08/12/2022 at about 4.30pm, by Dragon Patrol teams on stop and search duty along Warri/Sapele road in a black GLK mercedes Benz SUV with registration number BEN-734-EZ.
” When a search was conducted on the car and the passengers, one Barreta pistol, one locally made revolver pistol were recovered and the two suspects, one Joshua Oweke ‘m’, aged 35yrs of Gbulebu community in Edo State and Nicolas Binakeye ‘m’ aged 25yrs of first road Akenfa in Bayelsa State were arrested. Exhibits in custody and investigation is ongoing”, Edafe stated.
On the live cartridges, Edafe hinted that they were recovered from a merchant who unlawfully deals on sales to cultists and armed robbers.
The police spokesperson disclosed that they were recovered on 6th December, 2022, at a hideout in Boboroku community in Jesse, hibernated by syndicate, where they carry out nefarious activities.
His words, ” On the 6/12/2022, an intelligence report revealed that a syndicate who unlawfully deals on sales of cartridges to cultists and armed robbers were hibernating in Boboroku community in Jesse where they carry out their nefarious activities.
” Acting on this report, the Commissioner of Police Delta State Command, CP Ari Muhammed Ali FCIA, psc+, directed the Command’s raiders squad to carry out a sting operation on the said hideout.
” In Compliance with this directives, the Commander Raider’s squad detailed operatives who stormed the hideout at Boboroku Jesse Ethiope-West LGA, and arrested one Victoria Willams ‘f’ and two (2) others all from Boboroku community in Jesse and one hundred and thirty (130) live cartridges were recovered. Investigation is ongoing”.
Giving details on the recovered car, he said,” “On the 6/12/2022, at about 10.30pm, operatives of Eagle-net Special Squad deployed to Ughelli for the purpose of visibility policing and to complement the efforts of the Divisions in the area, received a distress call from a victim (Name withheld) on the said date, that his Lexus Saloon car with reg no. JRT670X Ash colour was snatched at gun point by three armed hoodlums and were heading towards Ughelli axis.
” The operatives immediately swung into action, trailed the hoodlums and their unrelenting effort paid off when the suspects on noticing that the operatives were closing in on them, abandoned the car and escaped into the bush at Ewu near Otu-Jeremi, Ughelli South LGA.
” The vehicle was recovered while manhunt for the fleeing suspect is ongoing”.
