Cancer: Survivor takes awareness to the pitch …Kaduna United play YSFON Babes in exhibition match

In her bid to creating more awareness especially among the youth, a cancer survivor, Mrs. Phoebe Sukai Yayi is taking this year’s Annual Breast Cancer Awareness to the Kaduna Township Stadium, where Kaduna United Academy will be playing YSFON Babes.
The football match it was gathered, would be part of several activities lined up in Kaduna State to carry the positive message of surviving the dreaded cancer to the general public.
Speaking ahead of the event, Mrs Yayi who is the Coordinator of the Annual Breast Cancer event said, “Breast cancer is one of the leading and common types of cancer among women.
“A woman can fight breast cancer if she detects it early and if she is ready to fight. The greatest weapon is awareness, early detection, courage and faith, coupled with love and care from family and friends,” she said.
She explained that reaching out to women in the state and especially rural women has been a challenge.
“However, integrating Breast Health Education with already existing preventive programs in the state through a working relationship with numerous religious organizations, nonprofit organizations, development partners, the private sector and stakeholders who already have access to these areas will be a step in the right direction to save the lives of women and other cancer affected people,” she added.
Speaking further, another stomach cancer fighter, Ms Bavoshiya Gloria Nyan said that the media will play a very crucial role in spreading awareness messages on cancer to a wider audience.
It was reliably gathered that the event will have Her Excellency, the wife of the Governor of Kaduna State, Hajia Aisha Ummi Garba El Rufai as Special Guest and Mother of the Day.
Other distinguished personalities expected include Head of Service, Mrs Alisabatu Dada Onazi, Commissioners, development partners, faith based organizations, civil society and other public spirited individuals.
The event will kick-start by a procession from the Police College Round-about to the Kaduna Township Stadium (venue of the event).
Converging time is from 2pm.
Annually, the month of October is a breast cancer awareness month in every country of the world, Nigeria inclusive.
