As part of efforts towards sustainability an environmental scheme, tagged, “Operation Keep Borno State Clean”, Borno State Environmental Protection Agency (BOSEPA) in collaboration with Ministry of Environment has embarked on observation of environmental sanitation exercise in the state every first Saturday of the month.
It has also officially, unveiled a designated dumping site in Jajirir Community of Bolori II Ward of Maiduguri metropolis which was constructed by UNDP and donated to the Borno State Government l.
The sanitation exercise was led by the General Manager, BOSEPA, Abubakar Suleiman within Maiduguri city and environs and supported by the Honourable Commissioner of Environment, Arc Yarima Saleh, alongside the Permanent Secretary of the ministry.
The commissioner while inspecting the sanitation exercise, commended the Sanitation Vanguards and Volunteers who participated in the exercise.
He also gave directives to all shops and markets to comply with the sanitation exercise laws by way of sanitizing their immediate environment, business premises without an option to clean their places on Friday or before the exercise commences, noting that, any defaulter found guilty, will face the full wrath of the law, while assuring the people of the continuity of the developmental programmes and policy that has direct bearing on the people.
While commending the efforts and sacrifices of the sanitation committee which has been rendering special services, especially the security agents and the media, charging them to continue discharging their responsibilities diligently in that regards and promised to continue to maintain cordial working relationship with the media and security agencies
The GM also urged the shop owners and some petty business men and women to obey the law during the monthly sanitation exercise by closing their businesses till after the exercise for three Hours between 7am to 10:00am.
Other places where the team carried out the exercise, include, Post Office Roundabout, Wulari Area, Bulumkutu Area, Ngomari Airport, Baga Road, Kumshe Area, Maiduguri Abatour Area, Gamboru/ Custom Market, Bama Motor Park, Fori Bypass, among others.
Among the participants were the General Manager Borno State Traffic Management Agency (BOTMA), Baba Shehu Tijjani, Special Adviser on Environment, SSA, among others.
The monthly sanitation exercise was launched by the present administration and it is observed every first week of every month to sanitize the state.
