Bauchi Command Would Surmount Emerging Security Challenges, Says New Police Commissioner

Newly deployed Commissioner of Police to Bauchi State, Umar Mamman Sanda has assured that his command would collectively put in place vigorous and courageous efforts towards surmounting emerging security challenges in accordance with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police and President Muhammadu Buhari.

This, the commissioner said, could not have been possible without the collaboration of the sister security agencies in the state, as he resolved to collaborate with them towards making life easier for the citizens

The new commissioner at his maiden press briefing when he assumed duty at the state command Monday, said the objectives of modern policing/crime control in line with global best practice is to amongst others, contribute towards the reinforcement of trust and confidence among the populace. 

He said, “These core values and general objectives would constitute our collective and individual responsibilities to ensure that there is law and order in the width and breath of the state. We are going to ensure that crime control is brought to force to reduce same to the barest minimum while pursuing such within the ambit premises of the law”.

Sanda explained that the command policing would be driven by professional knowledge and guided by intelligence at strategic, operational and tactical levels, as its modus operandi will be proactive, preventive and in some cases reactive.

According to him, those traits would be conducted within the contexts of public ownership, partnership, participation; problem solving and community support, geared towards general security of the state.

“Our strategy would generally be driven by ‘integrated intelligence-led community policing, which transcends simple law enforcement to embrace human security and development services achievable through required expertise and holistic community support”.  

He also assured that Bauchi command will integrate elements of key modern crime control and conflict management strategy into its policing efforts to be directed at prolific offenders, hot spots policing and managing major public gatherings, and crime prone events within the systems of community partnership.

“My fundamental duty is to serve mankind, safeguard lives and property, protect the innocent against deception, the weak against oppression or intimidation, and ensuring peaceful coexistence of all citizens in the state while guarding against violence and disorder”, Sanda maintained.

He thanked IGP Alkali Baba Usman for finding him worthy to be deployed to carry out the onerous but very important task of nation building, and requested the cooperation, dedication and support of critical stakeholders, and the people generally on the onerous task of serving Bauchi and the Nation.

 Mr. Umar Mamman Sanda, until his posting as the 43th commissioner of police in Bauchi state was serving as Commissioner of Police Administration Force Criminal Intelligent and Investigation Department (FCIID), Abuja.

The outgoing police commissioner, Abiodun Sylvester Alabi now redeployed to Force Criminal Intelligent Department Abuja, had in a farewell speech thanked the Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman for giving him the opportunity to serve as commissioner of police in Bauchi state police command, describing it as a rare privilege.

Alibi explained that during his tenure as the 42nd commissioner of police in Bauchi, both men and officers of the command have put in their best in securing the lives and properties of citizens while ensuring that the polity is peaceful.

Mr. Abiodun Alabi commended the cooperation, support and understanding of the people of Bauchi state without which, he observed, could not have been possible to achieve what he has achieved during the nine months’ period of his stewardship of the state police command.

He particularly appreciated heads of sister security organizations, traditional and religious leaders, other security outfits in the state, members of the police-public relations committee, as well as the media for its efforts in enlightening the public on the dangers inherent in crimes and criminality.
