Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, a frontline Presidential aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government to wake up from its apparent slumber and take decisive measures to deal with the insecurity threatening to collapse the nation.

Chief Anyim who is a former Senate president and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), noted that what is needed to resolve  security crises are; a sincere commitment, political will and a holistic approach to dealing with the situation not the current mixture of empty condemnations, media propaganda and disjointed actions.

The frontline Presidential aspirant observed that a holistic approach must include: a decisive and well coordinated military action covering the major flashpoints at once, a drastic rural infrastructural development, at least at the main theatres of war, a sincere and honest peace overtures to the truly repentant as well as an all encompassing youth employment drive across the nation.

Chief Anyim further noted the cumulative impact of poor economic management, lack of clear cut economic policy and the resultant absence of conducive atmosphere for business and investment as fuel to insecurity.

He recalled with nostalgia the textile industries in Kaduna and Bompai in Kano State, noting that the job loss occasioned by the closure of those and many other industrial areas in Nigeria set the stage for the current insecurity we face.

Chief Anyim said although time is not on the side of the APC government, with barely a year left in office, nevertheless, mustering the political will to take decisive action to halt further descent to the abyss may somewhat help its place in history as a total failure.
