African Wrestling Championships: We Are Hosting To Win – Igali

President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) Hon. Daniel Igali has said that he is confident that Nigeria will emerge overall winners at the 2018 African Wrestling Championships in Port Harcourt.

Igali made the statement at the hosting of flags of the 54 wrestling countries in Africa, at the Alfred Diete-Spiff Civic Centre-venue of the continental event.

“In the next few days, we will be hosting the whole of Africa in the wrestling event here at the (Alfred Diete-Spiff) Civic Centre,” he said.

“And it is important that as we host; we not only host well, but also host to win.”

The NWF boss equally highlighted the importance of the flag-hosting ceremony, stating that it signifies friendship amongst participating nations as well as their culture.

“Today we are gathered because all 54 nations of Africa that are expected to participate will be recognized.

“The symbols of the countries are their flags. This is about their culture; it’s about friendship, it’s about the official signal of the tournament that is going to take place here in five days.

“As we raise the flags, it signals that the competition is going to take place. It signals that it is going to be about friendship. It signals that it will be under the rules of the United World Wrestling,” the 1999 World Champion concluded.

The 2018 African Wrestling Championships which Nigeria will be hosting for the first time in her history will run from 7th to 11th February.

Meanwhile,No fewer than 30 African countries are expected in Port Harcourt for the continental wrestling event.
