Rector of The Polytechnic Ibadan, Professor Olatunde Fawole yesterday hinted that the institution needs the support of Oyo State Government for the accreditation of more courses.
Professor Fawole dropped this hint while speaking at the 31st Convocation ceremony of the institution, held at its new Lecture Theatre.
The Rector pointed out that the Institution would be humbly requesting for more and stronger support for all its academic programmes considering that accreditation of courses is a very expensive exercise.
“Accreditation of courses is a very expensive exercise. It is a period for re-evaluation of the teaching staff, the facilities on ground and of course, a period to introduce new innovations in the world into those programmes. While appreciating your Excellency’s support to the institution, like Oliver Twist, we would be humbly requesting for more and stronger support for all our academic programmes,” he said.
Professor Fawole stressed that many of the buildings in the institution require rehabilitation, saying, “it will be appreciated if capital grants are released to the institution as at when due for the rehabilitation of the classrooms, offices, workshops and laboratories”.
The Rector however disclosed that the institution has awarded National Diplomas, Higher National Diplomas and Post Graduate Diplomas to no fewer than 8, 518 students with  6,075 earning National Diplomas, 2,438 poses Higher National Diploma while 5 made a Post Graduate Diploma for the 2014/2015 academic session.
He stated that the institution has so far produced four different institutions including the Ibarapa Polytechnic Eruwa and Oke-Ogun Polytechnic Saki, governors, captains of industries, professionals in various fields including Governors Rauf Aregbesola (Osun) and Ayodele Fayose (Ekiti), Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi among others.
The Rector then charged the graduands to continue to try and struggle to a greater height, saying, “Your success is the result of your diligence, discipline, commitment and determination, you have been equipped with the intellectual tools to enable you make your mark and make success story of your career. Opportunities abound for only those who prepare to use them. I wish you all the best in your endeavors”.
Speaking, Governor Abiola Ajimobi , who is also the Visitor to the institution described the institution as a source of pride to the state and the country in general having produced many who have excelled in various fields of endeavors.
“I want to seize this opportunity to remind the graduands not to see this graduation as the end of their academic careers, they should continue to try to excel. You must choose the path of humility, self discipline. The foundation is laid for you, you have learnt, further develop yourself to higher levels. I am aware that the institution under the current management has secured accreditation in 27 courses and another 3 departments, in the pipeline, all the courses will also be accredited by the relevant authorities,” he said.
