The Security Division of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria have foiled kidnapping and arrested two suspected kidnappers who are terrorizing people around Zaria and its environs while attempting to kidnap one Dr. Keku Philip of crops and forestry programme of N.A.E.R .L.S/ABU Zaria on demands of N100, 000 to bail himself out of the trap of kidnapping.
Parading the suspects in his office to newsmen, the chief security officer of the university, Col. Jibrin K. Tukur (rtd) said the suspects are Halliru Sani 30 years old and Abdullahi Musa a meat seller at Kwanar Biye while trying to collect N100, 000 from Dr. KeKu Philip who earlier reported the matter to the security division of the university.
The C.S.O further said the two suspects have confessed of conspiring to collect the ransom from their victim on the threat of kidnapping if he fails to pay the money.
He said the University Security will continue to remain vigilant in effect to flush out criminality in the University environment to allow an enabling environment for teaching and learning.
Col. Jibrin added that they will not relent on their responsibilities of safeguarding the lives and property of all the University Community.
He commended the efforts and cooperation of the entire Security Division of their commitment and hard work that led to the arrest of the people who are terrorizing people with a threat to kidnap them if they fail to meet their demands.
Some of the victims who testified to newsmen on what happened to them are Bala Aminu a student of History Department, ABU, Zaria who happened to have sent N40,000 recharge cards as demanded by the suspects and he is an uncle to the principal suspect, Haliru Sani.
The second victim, Ayuba Yero Bomo a butcher despite threats didn’t pay nor give any money and the third victim, Alhaji Nura Abubakar of Danja Local Government of Katsina State said, he was asked to mobilize money to bail himself out of their kidnap through many text messages from Halliru Sani who happened to be a junior brother to his friend.
The two suspects have been handed over to the police for further investigations and eventual prosecution.
