The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has called on Kaduna residents to shun violence during and after the 2023 general elections.

Imam Garki, North West Zonal Coordinator of the agency, made the call during a sensitisation rally yesterday in Kaduna.

Garki said that the 2023 general elections was a determinant of the peace, unity and integrity of Nigeria.

According to him, the sensation is necessary to enlighten citizens to understand their roles towards ensuring that the 2023 general election is violence-free, fair credible.

” Citizens have an important role to play by abstaining from all forms of violence either before or after the elections for the integrity and safety of our future generations,” he said.

He called on citizens to exercise their rights and responsibilities peacefully while refraining from any form of violence or intimidation during the election period.

” Citizens should accept the result of the elections in good faith for the the peace and unity of the nation,” he added

Muhammed Yahaya, Controller General, Safety Awareness and Environmental Support Initiative (SAESI) said the sensitisation was timely as the elections has influence over all economic, social and political parameters.

He advised the various stakeholders and organisations in the state to emulate NEMA in sensitising citizens on the need for peaceful general elections.

Yahaya called on residents to celebrate peacefully after the elections while abstaining from violent activities.

The sensitisation rally included a 5km-walk, visit to the state central market and various motor parks while fliers were distributed
