The Senator representing Niger East senatorial district at the upper chamber of the National Assembly, Senator David Umaru is to construct a fifty kilometres road from Erena in Shiroro Local Government area of Niger State to Kawo area of Kaduna state.
Over one hundred communities from the Niger axis of the road are to be direct beneficiaries of the road project which is projected to gulp some millions of naira.
Senator Umaru, who is the Senate Committee Chairman on Judiciary, said the project is his contribution to the socio-economic development of the people of his constituency and to assist them with access road to link up with their kit and kins and fellow kinsmen in Kaduna state.
Though the senior parliamentarian did not disclose the monetary value for the cost of the project, he said his intention is to promote integration amongst the communities bordered along the boundaries of the two states along the fringes of Erena to Kaduna state.
Niger State is bounded to the east by Kaduna State with Gbagyi speaking communities of Shiroro, Munya, Wuse – Tafa, and Kagara councils to the left with boundaries of Gbagyi ethnic nationalities of Kaduna State.
Some of the communities in Erena, Kaure, Lagbe, Kusanson, Chikuba, Katarma, Kafaiwo among others are only merely separated from their kinsmen in Kaduna by imaginary, geographical boundary lines.
Senator Umaru lamented that for years on end, the communities had yearned for governments’ presence without a berthe through successive governments.
Speaking at the project site, the Senator said due to the bad terrain and absence of motorable road for the communities, several of them have suffered untold hardship, suffered economic losses and even died on the road while on transit seeking for medical attention in Kaduna which is closer to them.
While addressing some community heads from Erena at the project site, Senator Umaru assured that work on the project would commence soon.
He said the project is expected to impact positively on the lives of the people of his constituency by providing them with link and access roads for them to cumming together with ease without having to travel to Minna enroute to Kaduna or elsewhere.
