The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-West Zonal Working Committee has denied ever suspending Senator Iyiola Omisore; former governor of Ogun State, Chief Gbenga Daniel and others while hinting that the party is set for fresh convention to choose its new leaders.
National Vice Chairman of the party in the South-West, Dr Eddy Olafeso stated this while addressing newsmen after a meeting of the committee in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
Dr Olafeso stated that PDP still remained strong in the South-West despite its challenges and that it would soon hold a stake holders’ conference to chart the way forward for the party.
He stated that PDP is now ready to provide effective opposition to the All Progressives Congress (APC) led government which according to party “is showing Nigerians hell and making lives difficult for them.”
“We want to move forward as quickly as possible to ensure we provide a formidable opposition to this lackluster government in the country, a government that is giving hell to the ordinary man on the street. You can imagine, Christmas is coming but there is so much poverty and hardship. There is nothing to show that there is hope; there are no policies to fall back on. PDP will now provide an alternative platform; we will advise them if they will listen and we will connect with the Nigerian people again”he said.
The National Vice Chairman PDP Zonal Working Committee in the South-West then advised the Senator Alimodu Sheriff faction of the party to leave the party to survive since the faction was again, declared illegal by a Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
Dr Olafeso lauded the judiciary for coming out to redeem its name by giving judgments that will discourage people from taking advantage of the system in future as done by some PDP members despite that the party could deal with its internal issues.
Commenting on the outcome of the committee meeting, Dr Olafeso said the meeting frowned at the stand of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) for their alleged complicity in the Ondo governorship election, saying the manner INEC conducted the election and the voter inducement by APC posed danger to democracy.
“We reviewed the Ondo State election and we condemn the complicity of APC and INEC and the way and manner the election was conducted. We noticed how “see and buy” strategy, whereby the APC induced voters and the recklessness with which it was done on the Election Day.”
