Ostensibly to stem criminality, ensure prompt response to distress calls from citizens over virulent security challenges in Rafi local government area of Niger state, the administration in the state has undertaken to build new Divisional Police stations in three crime prone areas of the council.
The areas with dark spots and frequent cases of stand ups are Yakila, Pandogari and Kusherki. The state government is building new stations in the areas to bridge loopholes in the fight against criminals in the area.
The state Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello Friday commissioned a new Police Station at Yakila to give credence to his promise to assist the Police in combating criminality in parts of the state.
The new station costs about N19 million. It replaces the old, dilapidated structure serving the town and the adjourning villages. The state government furnished and equipped it for use by the Police.
Governor Bello commissioned the new station as part of his ongoing tour to local government councils of the state where he is commissioning projects.
At the occasion, Governor Bello vowed to step up efforts at beefing up security for lives and property across the state. He declared that reducing crime to it’s barest minimum remains a cardinal priority of his administration.
He explained that the decision to build and renovate Police stations and other security outposts in parts of the state was in furtherance of his administration’s commitment to ensure a crime free Niger state.
“We are committed to ensuring that the life of every citizen as well as their properties are guaranteed as safe and secured. Proper measures are being taken to ensure that there is peaceful coexistence amongst all the people in the state.
He equally assured that his administration will assist in the enhancing the welfare of security personnel working in the state. “We will make sure that they work in conducive environment so that they contribute effectively in the maintenance of law and order in the state” he assured.
Governor Bello disclosed that his administration will soon commence work for the up-scaling of the Pandogari township Police station to upgrade it to the status of a Division as well as the Police Outpost at Kusherki area as part of the security measures to nip all criminal activities in Rafi local government area.
