The Inspector General of Police (IG) has ordered an investigation into an alleged threat to life and an  unpaid $10,000 loan deal between Senator Nelson Effiong and one Lady Nsedu Onyile based in the United States of America.
Counsel to the lady, Dr. Emmanuel Eyo,  had petitioned the IG  alleging threat to life by the senator on his client over an alleged unpaid debt of $10, 000.
He said the money was transfered to Senator Effiong on March 18, 2015 from Bank of America and a refund was demanded by Onyile but instead of a refund Senator Effiong threatened her life through an email which reads, “I know how and where to get you when you come. We will know who owns the land. There will be no hiding place for you…just try any nonsense and I will handle you the way you can’t imagine” .
Eyo said, “sir, this statement of senator Effiong has seriously threatened the life of our client and we hereby pray that you investigate this matter to save the life of our client”.
The Lady who is based in the US had also petioned the Senate President Olusola Saraki twice on the matter but to no avail.
The latest petition to the senate president captioned, “Re: Case of gross misconduct, demand for the sum of $10, 000 and threat to life of Nsedu Onyile by Senator Nelson Effiong”, states that the Senator has “refused and neglected to pay our client the sum of $10, 000 which was paid into his account…on March 18, 2015.
“However, information reaching us is that Senator Effiong is boasting that our client does not have the capacity to confront him and that he would use his might as a senator to crush any move made by our client.
“We have come to you again and re-present this reminder to notify you of the refusal of senator Effiong to pay back to our client the sum of $10, 000”,
On receiving the petition, the IG through his Primcipal Staff Officer II, Mr. Promise Udeh directed the Deputy Inspector General of Police of the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Departmet to investigate the matter.
The letter reads, “I forward herewith copy of letter dated 1st June 2017 with its attachment received from A. B. & Associates on the aforementioned subject and respectfully convey the directives of the Inspector General of Police that you investigate and report”.
Efforts to reach Senator Effiong on phone to comment on the matter failed but  in his reaction through an email to the lady and made available to some newsmen, denied being indebted to the Lady saying the said $10, 000 was a donation from her to support his campaign,
Senator Effiong said,  “you will tell all those you have mentioned if I had ever begged you for a dime to do my election until you voluntarily called me and said you want to make a donation.
“You will show the whole world if I got loan from you, the paper I signed and the agreement we entered into. Just try any nonsense…are you going to deny that I am your boyfriend…I will tell the whole world you are doing this nonsense because I told you I don’t want you again”.
