Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum has ordered the integration of vocational skills in over 2,775 Quranic or Almajiri Tsangaya schools/centres widely known in the Northern part of Nigeria as Almajiri schools and 451 Islamiyyah Schools across the state.
Zulum gave the order on Tuesday at the Government House, when he received an update on the validation and registration of Tsangaya Schools across Borno State, presented by the Governing Council of Arabic and Tsangaya Education Board.
The governor also noted that with the introduction of vocational education, numeracy and literacy skills, Borno State Government intend to streamline the informal and formal education system to qualify Tsangaya schools products to get admitted into colleges and universities.
Zulum however, observed that the integration of vocational education will help to reduce the number of the out of school children and Almajiri’s roaming the streets in all parts of the State.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Arabic and Tsangaya Education Board, Khalifa Aliyu Ahmad Abulfatahi presented the findings of the validation and registration of the Tsangaya schools that the board conducted across the 27 local government areas of the state with exception of Kala-Balge, Guzamala and Abadam LGAs due to raining season and deplorable condition of the access roads linking the LGAs and their surrounding communities aming others
He said the board has so far, registered 2,775 Tsangaya centres or Quranic schools with 12,309 teachers /tutors and 224,068 pupils. And out of the 224,068 pupils, 128,789 were day school learners while 97,279 were boarding school learners.
He added that the board has also identified 451 Islamiyyah schools operating in various locations across the state.
The chairman of the board further presented a chip/ATM containing details of all the data or information in the entire exercise or activities the board carried out to the Govenror for his perusal.
