Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State on Monday, approved the payment of outstanding leave grants and gratuities for local government workers.
The Commissioner of Ministry for Local Government and Emirates Affairs, Hon Sugun Mai Meleh disclosed this at a press briefing with newsmen in his office.
He said, “His Excellency, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum has granted approval of N700 million for the payment of local government workers leave grants for the year 2022.
“The governor has also granted approval for the payment of outstanding gratuities to all the 27 Local Government workers ,” Meleh said .
According to the commissioner, all the 27 local government areas beneficiaries of the leave grants, payment is with immediate effect while the ministry has further directed all the local government heads (chairmen) to monitor and supervise the payment and ensure hitch free exercise without anybody diverting the money meant for whatsoever.
Sugun Meleh also warned that the money released for the leave grants payment to the local government council workers should in no circumstances, be used to pay for any commitment other than the leave grants and gratuities.
He further stated that the Ministry for Local Government and Emirate Affairs will not be happy if the money is diverted for any purpose and any LGC Chairman found wanting, will be sanctioned accordingly for any default on the payments.
The commissioner however, solicited for the support, cooperation and understanding of the LGC Chairmen with the state government to move the state forward.
He also thanked the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Representatives (Exco members) in the state, National Union of Teachers (NUT) and all other affiliated unions at the LGC level for their support and cooperation towards the successes recorded by the Zulum-led administration.
