The Alaba International Electronics Super League 2021 which has been on for some weeks, came to a successful end on Sunday when defending champions, Zone 10 defeated their Zone 9 counterparts 1-0 to retain the title.
In an entertaining encounter decided at the play ground of Lagos State University, Ojo, both teams displayed good football artistry to the delight of hundreds of fans who trooped out to watch the match but it was Zone 10 that carried the day after scoring the only goal of the match in the second half. Prior to the final game, Zone 12 had earlier beaten Zone 7 by 1-0 to win the third place match.
Presenting medals and trophies to the winning team, Chairman of Alaba International Market Evangelist Paulinus Ugochukwu who was assisted by both past and present executive members, commended all the players for their sportsmanship throughout the duration of the competition noting that the decision to re- introduce the tournament which was last held in 2015, was to encourage friendship and recreation among the traders.
Winners of the competition went home with medals, a giant trophy and the sum of N 1 million while the first and second runners- up got N 500,000 and N 250,000 respectively just as each player that participated in the tournament got N 50,000 each.
The best player of the tournament award went to the Captain of Zone 9, Ikechukwu Ejike with the best goalkeeper award going to Chinedu Saviour of Zone 13. Each of them got N25,000 for their effort.
