YPP Ticket: Retired AIG Asuqwo Amba Named Running Mate To OBA

Young Progressives Party (YPP) governorship candidate for Akwa Ibom State, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan also known as OBA has announced AIG Asuqwo Amba (Rtd) as his running mate for 2023 governorship race in the state.

The brief unveiling ceremony which took place at YPP State Secretariat in Uyo on Friday, a day after Senator Akpan was elected the party governorship flag bearer, was witnessed by the state executive members, party faithful and supporters.

Speaking at the event, the 2023 governorship hopeful, Sen Akpan said that the choice of AIG Amba came after wide consultation with political associates and critical stakeholders of the party in the state.

Assuring that his administration will be people- oriented, Sen OBA said his running mate came with a large network of critical contacts as well as wealth of experience in security management, community service and peace-building.

He said that the mandate he shared with AIG Mba is anchored on “3Rs” to ensure greater Akwa Ibom of prosperity and peace for all.

The governorship standard bearer described AIG Amba (rtd) as “a man who has served this country meritoriously with an uncontroversial credentials before retirement as AIG.”

In his acceptance speech, AIG Amba who described Senator OBA as “the legend of our time” expressed appreciation to him and the entire party structure for having faith in him.

He promised to work peacefully and assiduously to ensure the success of team and party in the state, adding that he will stabilise the government as the deputy governor as YPP is positioning to take over power in 2023.

Earlier in his opening address, the state chairman of YPP, Mr Nyeneime Andy  said that the party that goes with the ballot revolution slogan, would go round unit by unit of the state to campaign.

AIG Amba (rtd) is from Urueoffong Uruko Local Government Area of the state. A graduate of English from the University of Lagos. He did his National Service in 1985, and was retained as a lecturer in the University of Lagos before he was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force in 1986. 

He served as Commissioner of Police in different states including Bayelsa, Ekiti. An officer in-charge of Counter –  Terrorism at the force headquarters, Abuja before he was promoted to the rank of an Assistant Inspector General of Police before retirement.
