Why National Assembly Members Protested To Ebonyi INEC Office

As a result of the alleged irregularities and fraudulent activities that bedeviled 2023 presidential  and National Assembly elections, most of the National Assembly members (House of Rep and Senate) have stormed INEC office located opposite old Government House, Abakaliki to protest against the alleged fraudulent activities that engulfed presidential and National Assembly elections across the state.

Among the National Assembly members that stormed INEC office Tuesday afternoon were the first executive Governor of Ebonyi State, who doubles as the senator representing Ebonyi North senatorial zone; Sen. Michael Amannachi for Ebonyi South Senatorial zone.

Others are member representing Ohanivo Federal Constituency, Hon. Linus Abah Okorie, PDP senatorial candidate for Ebonyi central, Hon. Laz Nweru Ogbe, and Labour Party candidate for Abakaliki/Izzi Constituency, Hon. Eze Emmanuel Eze, among other youth that beseech INEC office in Abakaliki to express their grievances.

While addressing journalists over the issue, the first executive Governor of Ebonyi State, and senator representing Ebonyi North zone, lamented that the election which was peaceful initially has been fraudulently hijacked by the ruling APC government led by Engr David Umahi, calling on INEC to intervene immediately to rescue the situation since most of the results declared by INEC at various senatorial zones were never the true reflection of the outcome of the National Assembly election in Ebonyi State.

Others like Sen.Michael Amannachi, Linus Aba Okorie, among others called on INEC to do the needful as a matter of urgency before it will generate to crisis.

Responding, the electoral commissioner, Mrs.Paulin Onyekachi urged the protesters to tore the line of peace as she is going to do everything possible to ensure that the right thing is done in the election.
