Transportation of food items from the Northern part of Nigeria to other sections is becoming a pillar of economic progress, where trucks loaded with farm produce usually convey commodities from local markets to other parts of the country successfully on daily basis. Our correspondent who took a look at this development, reports that despite the current fuel subsidy removal, trucks fully loaded with food items, mostly vegetables were seen going southwards, conveying different kinds of items which is a testimony that national economy is in the path of growth. At Badume Market in Bichi Local Government Area, New Nigerian gathered that vegetables like tomatoes, onion, peppers and sweet pepper were mostly exported to Southern parts of Nigeria and some neighbouring countries like Cameroon, Ghana, Chad, Benin Republic and some parts of Niger Republic. In his remarks about the transportation of food items, the Kano/Jigawa States Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Vegetables and Fruits Dealers Association, Alhaji Usman B. disclosed that despite the present economic hardship and the issue of fuel subsidy removal, they are trying their best to ensure that Nigeria’s economy is booming through food items transportation and exportation. He commended Bichi Local Government Council, under the leadership of Dr. Yusuf Mohammed Sabo for being vigilant at Badume Market, which indicates that the local council leadership is making efforts at promoting the economy and providing good avenue for seasonal businesses to progress.
