The visit of the President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Mr Isaiah Kemje Benjamin to Kano State has received commendation and applaud from Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Galadima, Managing Director of the Radio Kano, Hon. Hisham Habib and other sports stakeholders in the state.
In a statement issued by the President’s SA Media, Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson, the SWAN President was in Kano to honour an invitation as a guest to the final football match competition in honour of Dr. Galadima, who has contributed immensely to sports development in Nigeria and Kano State.
Dr. Galadima was the former President of the defunct Nigeria Football Association (NFA), Immediate past Chairman of the Kano Sports Commission and also was Chairman Kano Pillars Football Club at some point.
The final which was between Kano Pillars Jnr and FC Azhuba, played at the Sani Abacha Stadium Kofa Mata, ended 1-0 in favour of the Pillars at the end of regulation time.
The winners and runners-up went home with medals and trophies, while some dignitaries were awarded certificates of recognition for their contributions to sports development.
The match was graced by other dignitaries, including the former Chairman of Gombe State Football Association, Alhaji Ahmed Shuabu Gara Gombe, former Chairman Kano Pillars, Alhaji Tukur Babangida, ex international, Dr. Mohammed Musa, Sports Director BUK, Rabiu Mohammed, Professor Musa A.A. among others.
Speaking at the end of the tensed match, Dr. Galadima in whose honour the competition was organized, commended the SWAN President for honouring the invitation and thanked the organizers for finding him worthy of organizing the football competition which is the second edition in his honour.
Earlier, the MD Radio Kano who received the SWAN President in his office, congratulated him on his emergence and expressed readiness to assist his administration in any way possible, adding that sports is a very important sector that must not be taken for granted.
The SWAN President who was accompanied by the Kaduna State SWAN Chairman, Shehu Abdullahi was received in Kano by the associaton’s Vice President North West, Mansur Mohammed, former national officer, Alhaji Ado Salisu and later had interaction with the immediate past Vice.President North West, Alhaji Idris Malikawa Garu, Kano State SWAN Chairman, Zaharadeen and some other members on the way forward for the association.
