Sheik Dahiru Bauchi opposes Malaysian Hajj system adoption in Nigeria.

A prominent Islamic Scholar and leader of the Tijjaniyya Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, has opposed the adaptation of Malaysia Hajj system that discarded government from supervising funding of pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia as being canvassed by some stakeholders in the country.
Dahiru Bauchi expressed his opposition to the Malaysian Hajj system while briefing newsmen at his Bauchi residence, saying “We as Muslims don’t agree and will never agree with this policy, that some Nigerians are now agitating”.
According to the cleric, “government has responsibility on all citizens at home or abroad, so I see no reason why government should start talking about ‎non funding of pilgrims or adoption of Malaysia hajj operations where citizens will be denied government’s breather”.
“If government is not capable of taking all the responsibilities of Hajj operations, it should at least reduce some of the burdens for citizens, but calling for the total removal of sponsorship of Hajj is not a good policy for the country”, the cleric remarked.
He added that “One should see to the fact that government is sponsoring many other activities within and outside the country such as football and others, yet we don’t complain about that, ‎then why holy pilgrimage and at this particular time”.‎
Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi observed that should government withdraw sponsorship of Hajj pilgrimage, it will not go down well with the religious obligations, especially as regard funding and other challenges, stressing “We have to be careful with those agitators calling for the adaptation of Malaysian Hajj system”.
The revered cleric however commended the present government for its effort to curb the security challenges and the anti-graft crusade against corrupt officials, adding that things are now getting better for the country as being witnessed through the change mantra.

It could be recalled that some stakeholders recently in Abuja proposed that the National Hajj Commission adopts the Malaysian Hajj Operational System as, according to them, the Federal Government could no longer fund the Hajj pilgrimage.
