Several people were feared killed and several injured following twin bomb explosions at a famous Kano Mobile (GSM) market along Farm Centre.
New Nigerian reports however that there were conflicting figures on the exact number of casualties, with Police putting it at 3 death and eye witness account putting it at 8 casualties.
The state Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Musa Katsina while addressing newsmen, confirmed the death of three people and eight others injured.
But most of those who witnessed the blast alleged that they counted 20 dead bodies with over two dozen others sustaining various degree of injuries.
A witness told our reporter that the blasts were detonated by two teenage ladies who were brought to the densely populated market around 4pm in
a Sharon car.
“We saw about six young females in the car and the driver dropped two out of them and zoom away with the remaining” one of the eye witness said.
The Police authorities also confirmed that the twin bombs were detonated by two female suicide bombers.
Mr. Katsina has said the third female suicide bomber with undetonated
bomb was at large, saying Police have detailed plain-cloths detectives
to trail her. According to the Police boss, the first bomb blasts went off outside the market around 4pm, while the second exploded right inside the market.
Our correspondent reported that security has been beefed up in the ancient city with many patrol vehicles in strategic locations patrolling the town.
Meanwhile the road behind Government House Kano which leads to Tarauni area has been closed minutes after the blast as a way of fortifying security around the Government House.
