A group under the auspices of Wase Bogghom Development Association, Jos branch, has charged the All Progressives Congress (APC), to consider zoning the 10th House of Representatives speakership position to the North Central geopolitical zone in the interest of equity and justice.

The association also made a passionate appeal to president Muhammadu Buhari, President elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as well as national working committee of the APC to throw their weight behind Rt. Honourable Idris Maje Wase to be emerge  10th National Assembly Speaker.

Speaking to newsmen  in Jos, the Plateau State capital, leader of the association, Bala Muhammad said  they are galvanizing support for Deputy Speaker of the 9th National Assembly (Wase) to spearhead leadership of the House is based on his antecedents having been  in the Green Chambers for for five terms.

He acknowledged that  since the emergence of APC in 2015, North Central geopolitical zone has contributed immensely towards the victory of the APC, and even the just concluded polls, with  Governor Simon Bako Lalong serving as campaign Director Genetal of Tinubu/Shettima.

“It is equally on record that the zone has never produced a Speaker of the  House of Representatives.

“On the strength of this and in the interest of justice and equity which APC has always been known for and  demonstrates, we are appealing to the leadership of the party and the authorities concerned to zone the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives to the North Central and specifically endorse the current Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon Ahmed Idris Wase for that position.

“There is no gainsaying the seamless transition that would be afforded the party and nation at large with the emergence of Rt. Hon Ahmed Idris Wase as Speaker, but we must also appreciate his qualities as an astute legislator and loyal party man with high experience of legislative business.

“His legislative track records in bills sponsoring and lobbying to influence projects and personal interventions are too numerous to mention here”, Muhammad stated.

Leader of the association also revealed that in June 2019 in the 9th Assembly, Rt. Hon Ahmed Idris Wase was a leading contender for the position of Speaker, but as a faithful party man, he bowed to the wishes of his party and ensured the emergence of Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.

“It is in this light of above, that we call on President Muhammadu Buhari, President-elect Ahmad Bola Tinubu, APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu and other party loyalists to endorse Hon Ahmed Wase for Speakership of the 10th Assembly.

“We would also like to call on our brothers in the North Central Zone to support this national cause and personally enjoin our brothers on the Plateau regardless of party affiliation to support this endeavour”, he appealed.
