Communities in Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State have expressed concerns as refuse dumps are taking over most  major roads in the area,  following the strike embarked upon by the adhoc workers of the company evacuating the refuse.

The isolated refuse dumps positioned at different locations are filled and not evacuated  for many weeks,  resulting to dumping of refuse at the middle of the roads by some people.

New Nigerian Newspapers visited areas on an assessment tour from Bellon Gima House at Kasuwan Zaria, Kamfage, Buban Dodo Round About, Kusfa, Kofar Doka, Tudun Wada, Gyellesu, Gaskiya Road among others, are examples of the inability of the company and the authorities concerned to evacuate the refuse.

As the raining season period is deepening, communities have expressed fears of  possibility of  flooding that may occur if the refuse is not evacuated as soon as possible to avert the ugly situation, with fears of  outbreak of communicable diseases also.

In an investigation conducted by our correspondent,  the contractor handling the cleaning of roads and refuse evacuation  stopped work,  following the expiration of its contract period in the area.

Also revealed, was that plans are under way to transfer the work of cleaners and dump evacuation to Zaria Metropolitan Authority.

The issue of road cleaners and refuse evacuation was being taken care of by the state government which engaged a private company.
