The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi, has lost his uncle and mentor, Chief Sylvester Nwobu-Alor.

Nwobu-Alor who has been sick for a long time and in out of hospital died on Friday at Regina Caeli Hospital in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

The politician of repute, known for his regular clean white dressing, served as a lawmaker in the Second Republic.

He also served as an aide to Obi during his time as Anambra State Governor, between 2006 and 2014, helping him to stabilize parks and markets in the state.

The period was a time when motor park touts under the guise of National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) unleashed mayhem on the state.

But using his native intelligence and political sagacity, Nwobu-Alor, popularly known as ‘Onwa’ tranquilized them and sanitized the system till  date.

A tribute signed by one of his mentees and political sons, Sir Chris Chikwelu (Jr) reads,  “My political mentor, a philosopher, an institution, a strategist and a purveyor of knowledge- Chief Hon Sylvester Nwobu Alor (Onwa-Agulu, Okaa Omee-Anaocha) has peacefully gone to be with the Lord.

“A two-time member that represented Njikoka South Central in the Old Anambra State House of Assembly.”

“You lived a good life, May your soul rest in perfect peace.

Your Mentee.”
