PERL’s One-day Media Engagement On Girl-child Education Ends In Kaduna

A one-day meeting organised by Partnership to Engage Reform and Learn (PERL)  aimed at  supporting media partners in the state to scale up implementation of strategies towards addressing barriers to girl-education has ended in Kaduna, with participants vowing to do more to create awareness.

At the meeting held at Bafra Hotel on Tuesday June 14, 2022, 

organisers stressed the importance of supporting media partners to scale up implementation of specific activities in the media engagement strategy to increase understanding and influence behavioural change on negative barriers to girl education

Other objectives  of the meeting were to review progress and partners’ effort on the implementation of strategy, as well as  deepen and sustain civic conversation on barriers to girl education using various media platforms.

Giving an overview of the strategy, PERL’s  Istifanus Akau said that media practitioners are important stakeholders in creating awareness.

Some of the barriers highlighted at the meeting, included Socio-cultural barriers,  Economic barriers, 

Infrastructure and WASH barriers and  Access barriers.

The media practitioners present also while reviewing of progress/activities implemented in the strategy, produced evidence 

 of implementation  via (audio/video clips, drama produced, jingles, documentaries, life phone-in programmes, stories published etc).

They also debated on ehat worked well and what didn’t work, as well as lessons learnt  and what could be done differently.

The  plenary at the meeting, saw the  presentation of various group work.

Participants were drawn from print, online and broadcast media.
