As Christians all over the world celebrate the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, a Catholic Priest, Rev. Dr. Joseph Agbor, has called on the faithfuls to always emulate the humility and meekness of Christ.
Agbor who is the Parish Priest of St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral, Efut Abua, Calabar gave the advise while delivering his sermon to mark the celebration of Palm Sunday.
He regretted that a lot of Christians had dropped the teachings of Christ Jesus for something else which will do them any good.
Jesus Christ, he said, was humble and meek. He gave himself in order to save mankind from our sins.
Palm Sunday is a sign of victory. It signifies that Jesus has taken over the rulership of the world and henceforth no man can have authority over Him.
His kingdom, he said, is filled with humility and meekness and does not suffer any violence, adding “we have gathered here today not like the Jews of the old but like Christians ready to emulate the ways of Jesus Christ.
According to him, “if Jesus did not come or accept His passion we would not have been saved”.
He advised the catholic faithful to always change their lives to conform with the christian faith.
Agbor urged Christians to sacrifice their lives to Jesus so as to make heaven.
He described Jesus Christ’s death as a betrayal and complete denial as ” nothing happens to a man without the knowledge of his close relations or friends as was His case before crucifixion.
To mark the event, the Catholic faithful within the archdiocese of Calabar marched through major streets, with their palms, dancing and singing to the glory of God Almighty.
