The Senior Special Assistant on Sports Development to Governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola, Mr Vincent Akinbami has called on the people of the state to massively support his principal for on second term bid to reap the benefits of continuity and growth.
Describing the governor, Akinbami said Oyetola is a professional to the core, especially in the financial sector.
“He knows what it is to manage the revenue and expenditure for the benefit of the citizens and the state itself.l,” he submitted.
He added that Oyetola is a pragmatic and visionary leader and a steady system builder who is sincere and trustworthy.
In the area of sports, he said the state held it first Osun Sports Festival under the Commissioner of Sports, Mr. Yemi Lawal, where several budding talents were discovered for the next National Sports Festival billed for Delta State.
“The state won silver in football during the 2021 National Youth Games in Ilorin, as well as eight medals in other sports, with an average performance at the 2021 National Sports Festival in Benin.
“The state has produced the likes of Olaitan Mujidat, a para-power lifter who won Olympic Bronze medal for Nigeria last year as well as a gold at the World Cup Para Powerlifting Championship in Manchester, United Kingdom and islamia Yusuf who won a bronze medal in an international weightlifting championship,” he pointed out
Akinbami added that the governor has given the Commissioner of Sports, Mr. Yemi Lawal, the Special Adviser, Alhaji Aremo Adegboyega Lateef and himself the go ahead to draw up a blueprint for sports in the state, adding that emphasis will be laid on infrastructure, talent discovery and nurturing.
He concluded that sports within the next few years, will be taken to a whole new level under governor Oyetola.
