Ogun Housewife Sells Her 18 Months  Old Baby For N600,000

An Ogun State housewife is now biting her fingers in the custody of Police in the state for selling her 18 month old baby for the sum of N600,000.

The suspect, Olaide Adekunle was said to have sold the baby to a yet to be identified buyer without the consent of her husband Nureni Rasaq.

Her arrest, according to report was sequel to a complaint lodged by her husband at the Sango Police Divisional Headquarters, claiming that his wife left home for Lagos on March 15, 2023 with their baby girl, Moridiat Rasaq, but did not return with her.

The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson  SP Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the arrest in a release on Monday.

His words, ” CSP Dahiru Saleh, the DPO Sango Division, thus directed his detectives to arrest her. During questioning, she admitted to selling the baby to someone in Lagos for six hundred thousand Naira (₦600,000).

“Olaide stated that she borrowed money from a microfinance bank and when she was unable to repay it, the bank’s agents began dragging her and threatening to deal with her harshly.

“The PRO said she fled to Lagos and began selling sachet water, meeting a man who introduced her to the woman who eventually bought the child in Lagos.

” DCP Babakura Muhammed, the acting Commissioner of Police, has instructed that the suspect be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible recovery of the baby”.
