NUJ Zaria Unit Elects New Executives

Sagir Muhammad Auwal of NTA Zaria has been elected unopposed

as the new Chairman of the NIgeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Zaria Unit.

Until his election, he was the Vice Chairman.


Others elected unopposed are Vice Chairman, Mustapha Adamu Yuri of NAN and Financial  Secretary, Mu’azu Albarkawa of Alheri Radio, while Secretary Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed of Leadership, Treasurer Haliru Hamza of FRCN kaduna retained their positions.

The remaining two positions was keenly contested and Ibrahim Garba Makarfi of KSMC defeated ibrahim Suleiman of Radio Nigeria Kaduna with 17 votes to 14 for the Assistant Secretary, while Hassan Ibrahim of Freedom Radio defeated Tina Toro of NTA Zaria with 15 votes to 14 for the auditor. 


Declaring the results, the Chairman Credential Committee,  Mika’ilu Ibrahim Fagachi of Nagarta Radio described the election as free and fair.


He commended members of the noble profession for the high sense of maturity they displayed during and after the election. 


In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Comrade Sagir Muhammad Auwal assured members of his mission to transform the union.


He called on all members to give them the necessary support to what will become a pride of journalism profession in Zaria and Kaduna State. 


The new Chairman also reiterated his commitment towards capacity building for members, particularly, digital media practice. 


Speaking on the welfare of members,  Comrade Sagir said the new exco will introduce measures that will assist them.
