This was expressed by the organisers if the talent hunt, Coach Danjuma Joe Dangana, while fielding questions from our correspondent on how funds were raised to host the two-day tournament.
“It’s my personal funds alongside assistance from friends and well wishers, notable among those who contributed were Engineer Musa Nimrod with finance, equipment and moral.
“He is a mentor and the backbone that made me go ahead with the programme. I lack words to express my appreciation,” he said.
Speaking further, he explained that the person they are doing the talent hunt in honour of, was his elder brother passed away on August 18, 2020 after a brief illness.
“He was the first coach of Gifted Hands Volleyball Club, where the competition is taking place.
“This is second edition, last year we just experimented with teams in Zaria,” he said.
According to him, what gave birth to the name talent hunt is because he discovered that most tournaments are dominated by league and national team players, denying budding talents chance of being discovered.
“There are talents here, by the time they play the league and national teams players, you will see their difference,” he said.
Coach Danjay as he is popularly called, said that he intends to have the talent hunt as an annual event.
“But the major challenge is talents discovered, what do we do with them? It would be good for talents discovered, if we have sponsorship and register them in Div 2 where I am optimistic that they will do well.
“Unfortunately, I am a civil servant. I am therefore, calling on public spirited individuals and crporate organisations to come and partner so that we can get them registered in the league,” he appealed.
