Nigerian Army Day: Frontline Troops Distribute Exercise Books To Displaced Yobe Students

As part of activities to commemorate the Nigerian Army Day, the officers and soldiers of the Sector 2, Joint Taskforce, Operation Hadin Kai in Damaturu have organised a public speaking engagement to displaced students of four secondary Schools in Damaturu the state capital.

Declaring the event opened, the Chief of Staff to Sector 2, Brigadier General Julius Ogbobe who represented the Commander, revealed the aim was to acquaint the students on the activities of the army as well strengthen the civil military relationship.

General Ogbobe expressed dismay over the number of out of school children, saying illiteracy is the major cause of the involvement of some youths into the insurgent groups.

He called on parents to take responsibility for taking care of their wards so as to have a better future in Nigeria.

The Troops use the forum to distribute exercise books to the students of Government Secondary Schools, Goniri, Damaturu, Babbangida among other schools to encourage school enrolments.

The Director Sciences in the Ministry of Basic and Secondary education as well as the Principals of the Secondary Schools thanked the army for the sensitization and the distribution of the books, saying it will go a long way in assisting the students especially those that are orphans.

Some students, having been acquainted with the activities of the army, expressed their willingness to join the army after their secondary education.
