The President of Ikeja Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Edward Olutoke has suggested a way forward for Nigeria’s dwindling economy, saying unless it stops buying goods that it can produce.

According  to him, Nigeria has become an import dependable country as it is no longer productive as it was in the 1960s up till the 1980s.

Dr. Olutoke advised President Bola Tinubu to lock up the country and encourage everyone to be productive.

He said that it is unacceptable for a country of two hundred million people not be able to feed its population.

He further said that the Naira would begin to appreciate when the economy becomes productive and citizens  begin to add value to products before exporting them.

He said that Nigerians  should not expect any miracle this year, as there is nothing on ground to  hope for.

On the 2024 budget of Renewed Hope, he said that he has not seen anything spectacular  that  will change the fortune of citizens, saying that the last seven months have been frustrating and full of pains and suffering.

According to him, President Bola Tinubu ought not to have announced fuel subsidy removal since he knew that there was no budgetary allocation for it as his announcement plunged citizens and the economy into confusion that led to hike in transport fare thereby, worsening inflation and hardship.
