Nigeria Has 4,000 Women Enterprises In Export – NEPC

Nigeria currently has 4,000 enterprises led by women that export different goods and services to many parts of the world under the She Trade Initiative, the Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC), has disclosed.

Nonye Ayeni, the executive director/chief executive officer of the NEPC, disclosed this at the weekend in Abuja, at the Export Readiness Workshop, on the theme, “Positioning Women-Led Businesses for AfCFTA Success”,  organised by the council, in collaboration with the International Trade Centre (ITC), under the framework of the SheTrades Commonwealth project.

SheTrades, according to her, is an initiative launched by the International Trade Centre (ITC) in 2015 to build the business capacities of women and create a fairer, more sustainable global eco-system remove barriers to women’s participation in trade by working with governments and private sector organisations. 

She explained, “Nigeria currently has over 4,000 women-led businesses currently connected to this initiative and they have participated in webinars, market access programmes and in-person training programmes designed to meet specific sectoral needs.”

The representative of the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO), Aisha Musa, noted that the organisation was partnering with the IFC and NEPC in ensuring that women access credit through financial institutions, as well as fastrack B2B meetings with private investors.
