NEMA Hands Over Weather Observatory Station To Nasarawa Varsity

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has handed over an installed Automated Weather Observatory Station (AWOS) to the Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
The Director-General of NEMA, Mustapha Habib Ahmed, during the presentation ceremony, explained that the Automated Station in Keffi is one among three installed in tertiary institutions in Nigeria and the first to be handed over to another institution.
The NEMA boss said the weather station was installed in collaboration with the Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency to assist it in data collection that will be evaluated and sent to NEMA, and also to improve quality teaching and research in Universities.
In his remark, the Director-General of Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) Engr. Nze Clement Onyeaso applauded the inter-agency cooperation that exists between the two sister organisations.
He particularly thanked the DG of NEMA for his quick response to the request for an AWOS, which will complement the work of the two agencies, and the management of NSUK for synergising with them in the search for ways to mitigate natural disasters.
In his welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed, described the day as very historic in the history of the University.
He thanked the Chief Executives of the two sister agencies for finding the University a worthy partner in their quest for rapid response to natural disasters.
He promised that the equipment will be put to judicious use, and the memorandum of understanding will be executed to the latter to improve teaching and research in the University.
Highlights of the ceremony were the signing of the tripartite memorandum of understanding between the three organizations and a demonstration of the use of the installed Automated Weather Observatory System.
