The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has presented food and non-food items to Yobe State Government as humanitarian support for the people of the state.
Presenting the items in Damaturu on Friday, the Managing Director, North East Development Commission (NEDC), Alhaji Goni Mohammed Alkali noted that the presentation was done in fulfillment of the commission’s earlier pledge on August 18, 2022 during the celebration of 2022 World Humanitarian Day in Maiduguri.
He said, “Those of you who were present on August 18 when President Muhammadu Buhari presided over the World Humanitarian Day in Borno would witness that we made a commitment to provide succour as humanitarian gesture to all the six states in the North-East region in form of food and non-food items.
“We are here today in Yobe to concretize the promise.”, Alkali said.
He said the items include 10,000 bags of 25 kg rice, 5,000 pieces of blankets, 5,000 pieces of leather mats, 3,000 gallons of vegetable oil, 5,000 pieces of textile wrappers and 3,000 pieces of 10 yards textile materials.
The Managing Director further explained that as at the time the commission made the commitment in August this year, there was no issues of flood disaster in Yobe State.
He therefore, made another commitment that the commission will make additional presentation of food and non food items for the victims of flood in the affected states of the north east sub region to alleviate their sufferings and hardships from the flood disaster.
Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State who was represented by the State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idi Gubana said the humanitarian support was apt while appreciating the NEDC for it’s geature and continuous support to the state and the entire region.
Highpoint of the occasion included, presentation of the food and non food items, group photographs and distribution of the items among others.
