The presidential candidate of Labour Party in the just concluded presidential elections Mr Peter Obi has lamented the manner in which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has deprived the wishes of the masses in the just concluded general elections in the country.
Obi bared his mind on the topless protest staged by women in Nasarawa State, demanding the restoration of their stolen mandate.
He described the crook electioneering process as gross political sabotage, saying that it is grievous injustice meted out to the common man.
“I just came across a sad, heartbreaking video where Nasarawa women staged a topless protest as a means of registering their displeasure with the election results.
“The purpose of election is for citizens to participate in democratic governance through the representatives they elect. A grievous injustice occurs when citizens are denied the opportunity to vote in a free, fair and credible process or their mandate is stolen from them.
“Our women who should be honoured and respected, and their rights protected, have been degraded and left to seek justice the only way they can trust by calling on their creator.
“I remain committed to 40% affirmative action for women in political appointments and will encourage the same in the corporate world. As a nation, we must do better and ensure that the mandate of the people is not stolen from them”, Obi said.
It would be recalled that the gubernatorial elections that announced the incumbent governor as the winner in Nasarawa was enmeshed in gross irregularities.
The election, which had results of eleven LGAs with the PDP candidate leading with a wide margin of over 24,000 votes, was put on hold for over 24 hours only to cook up votes from the remaining two LGAs to announce Gov. Sule as the winner.
During the process, the media and PDP agents were sent out of the collation centre to give them free hands of operation.
