The Joint Action Front (JAF) Friday declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) government of President Mohammadu Buhari is given negative changes to Nigerians.
Oyo state JAF coordinator and immediate past National Treasurer of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Dr Demola Aremu stated this in Ibadan while addressing market men and women at the Bodija market during a peaceful protest around Ibadan metropolis to kick start mass protest against hike in fuel pump price by the federal government.
Dr Aremu pointed out that what the President Buhari government has given to Nigerians so far have been negative changes in “salary payment, power, food, road and fraud in the increment of price of fuel”.
The Oyo state JAF coordinator lamented that “a government that could encourage marketers to source for money from the secondary market is unserious and fraudulent”.
According to him, it was suprising that “all those who described removal of subsidy in 2012 under Dr Jonathan administration as fraud are now the one saying subsidy is the best for the country”.
Speaking further during the rally, the JAF Coordinator described the increment “as an onslaught against Nigerians” especially at a period when 27 states were unable to pay salaries of workers, while pensioners are owed arrears, shortfalls of allocation to universities, fraud in power supply, and unprecedented inflation as the first year achievement of Buhari administration.
Emphasizing that the rally was just to sensitize Nigerians ahead of the mother of all protest next week, JAF boss called for the reversal of the pump price to N86 and full prosecution of subsidy fraudsters who are friends of government.
The protest which started at the University of Ibadan campus was led by Union representatives piloted by the Police to Bodija market where they were joined by market men and women who complained about exorbitant cost of living and food products.
