The Adamawa State Ministry of Health has recorded 57 suspected cases of Monkeypox, which makes the state one with the highest suspected cases.
Speaking to New NIgerian, the state Director Public Health Dr. Celine La’ori, said the first case was recorded in April 2022 at Army Barracks.
The Director disclosed that the spread of the virus cuts across two local government areas, Yola North and Yola South.
She maintained that such cases were immediately referred to the center at Jimeta.
La’ori pointed out that following the outbreak, an emergency operation center was set up to curtail the spread of the virus.
“It was the first time of having such an outbreak in the state, thus workers were trained by our partners, we also embarked on sensitization exercise to the affected areas.
” Monkeypox is highly contagious, infected person(s) should be isolated, proper hygiene should also be maintained”, she advised.
La’ori pointed out that the symptoms Include low grade fever, accompanied by rashes like that of chicken pox.
She however, stresys that, ” when you have such rashes, rush to the center for proper diagnosis.”
Laori lamented poor knowledge gap in the society and called for proper sensitization among the populace.
“We are soliciting the support of our partners”, she appealed.
