Kwara 2016; Bauchi to honour athletes who excel

Bauchi state contingents to this year’s national youths athletics tagged ‘Kwara 2016’ have been assured that those who excelled in the event will be honoured by the state government to boost their morale for future competitions and national sports festivals.
The State Governor, Mohammed Abubakar, who gave the assurance Tuesday while bidding farewell to the state contingents for Ilorin to participate in the national event, also directed relevant state bodies to start preparations for Bauchi athletes ahead of the national sports festival.
He explained that the preparations involve organizing state festival to discover hidden talents scattered across nooks and crannies of the twenty Local Government Areas of the state that would represent Bauchi in future national competitions.
The Governor, who was represented by the state commissioner for social welfare, youths and sports, Ibrahim Madaki Itas, urged the athletes to be good ambassadors of the state in Ilorin, especially in doing away with drugs enhanced performance, but to rely only in their natural fitness.
Abubakar assured that the state government has on its part provided all necessary support to ensure that Bauchi athletes excel in the national event despite the state’s lean resources.
He reiterated the state administration determination for not only encouraging sporting activities, but also encouraging the youths to actively participates in different events so as to win laurels and become useful to the society.
While noting that national youths game is not a medal awarding competition, but was rather introduced to provide conducive atmosphere for hunting of talents among the had youths who can represent state in future competitions.
Bauchi state Director of Sports, Lawal Garba earlier in a welcome address disclosed that the state’s contingent’s strength is 107 including coaches, medical and security personnel, and drivers who will accompany the athletes to Ilorin, Kwara state.
