Katsina Police Guns Down Several Terrorists

Katsina State Police Command  has said that an unidentified number of terrorists were believed to have been killed during a gun battle with its operatives in two simultaneous operations.

The operations were carried out at Dadawa and Barkiya villages in Kurfi Local Government Area.

Spokesman of the command,  Gambo Isah made the revelation at the command’s headquarters in Katsina, stressing that, the encounters occurred on Monday at 1:30pm in the afternoon, adding that 74 sheep and 34 goats earlier rustled by the terrorists were recovered.

 According to him, the Police received a distress call that terrorists, numbering 80 on motorcycles, armed with sophisticated weapons, simultaneously attacked the two villages in Kurfi.

 ASP Gambo said the Police deployed its tactical teams to the area and engaged the hoodlums in severe gun battle.

 The team  to  Gambo Isah successfully repelled the terrorists and recovered 74 sheep, 34 goats and two cows.

He said a team of Policemen are still combing the area to arrest the wounded terrorists and recover their dead bodies.

 The spokesman added that the Police Commissioner Idris Dabban Dauda urged the public to continue to cooperate with security agencies in the campaign against terrorists.

Meanwhile, Katsina State Government has presented the sum of one million naira to the family of a slained Police Officer Inspector Samuel Williams.

Inspector Samuel Williams died on fifth July alongside the Dutsinma Area Commander, late ACP Aminu Umar while on clearance duty in Zakkah District of Safana Local Government.

 Presenting the money to the family on behalf of Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari, Permanent Secretary Cabinet and Security Suleiman Yakubu Safana described the deceased as a gallant officer who lost his life in the line of duty.

He said the money given to the family was not meant to compensate the deceased family but to support them.

 The Government also extended its heartfelt condolence to the family and prayed for the strength to bear the loss.

Responding on behalf of the family, the widow of the deceased Mrs. Lami Samuel expressed gratitude to the Katsina State Government for the support and sympathy shown to the family.

At the presentation of the one million naira support was the Katsina State Police Commissioner Idris Dauda Dabban who was represented by SP Babangida Abdullahi.
