Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai has described the installation of the 14th Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido as the Chancellor of the Kaduna State University (KASU) as a big gain to the institution and the entire state.
He expressed this while speaking as the Visitor to KASU’s 4th Convocation held within the school’s premises in Kaduna on Saturday September 25, 2021.
“Kano’s loss is our gain. We extend appreciation of government and people of Kaduna State to you for accepting to serve as Chancellor. We are already yeilding benefits,” el-Rufai said.
Governor el-Rufai expressed delight to be part of the 4th convocation and installation of Chancellor of the University, while describing KASU as one of the top state owned universities in the country.
“Kaduna government is developing permanent site of KASU in Rigachikun.
“Our vision for KASU is to spread campuses all over the state that will one day, stand as universities of their own.
“As part of our desire, this government will next week, announce visitation panel to KASU.
“We are very proud of KASU it is rated among the best State owned universities in the country,” he declared.
The Governor said that earlier this year, the governing board of KASU increased the tuition fees, which he described as an important step in making the institution greater.
“My colleagues and I will support free education at tertiary level if the government will give the necessary support.
“While the state government provides free education for 12 years, it welcomes understanding of parents and students to make partnership of tertiary education work.
“We need to agree govt funding alone cannot find tertiary education,” he pointed out.
For the students awarded various degrees at the convocation, Governor el-Rufai tasked them to be good ambassadors of KASU.
“Use the knowledge recieved to navigate the world,” he charged..
Speaking further, he said that there is need to address the curriculum of tertiary institutions in the country, to make graduates competent.
“It is vital to address curriculum of tertiary institution to ensure it imparts knowledge, rather than just awarding certificates,” he said.
Malam el-Rufai congratulated KASU Chancellor, the Honourary degrees awardees and graduating students.
