Kafin-Hausa Windstorm Relief Committee Inaugurated In Jigawa

A fifteen-man committee headed by Kafin-Hausa Council Chairman, Malam Muhammadu Saminu aimed to promptly relocate and provide foodstuff, shelter and medication to the  victims of the council’s windstorm disaster has been inaugurated by the Jigawa State acting governor, Alhaji Umar Namadi.

Inaugurating the committee at the Council Chamber, Namadi called on the state and federal government agencies to as a matter of urgency, provide an enabling environment as shelter for resettlement of the victims as well as assisting them with enough foodstuff, water and medication as interim measures to alleviate their sufferings.

Earlier, the Executive Secretary Jigawa State Relief Agency, Alhaji Yusuf Sani confirmed that heavy down pour coupled with windstorm  wreaked havoc on the affected community and destroyed several houses, adding that the agency was conducting damage assessment exercise to ascertain the extent of destruction caused by the disaster.

He said the displaced persons took refuge with their relatives in the area, pending when a temporary shelter would be provided for them by the agency.

“Six persons lost their lives and 65 others who sustained injuries in the disaster have been hospitalised.

“Our personnel and that of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) are in the area assessing the level of damage,” he said.

Also commenting, the Information Officer in charge of the area, Muhammad Umar, said the chairman of the council, Muhammad Saminu, has visited the victims on admission at General Hospital, Kafin-Hausa.

Similarly, the Jigawa State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate for 2023 general elections, Alh. Mustapha Sule Lamido has commiserated with the people of Kafin-Hausa community in Kafin-Hausa LGA over Tuesday night’s sad event, which led to the loss of lives  according to some accounts, destruction of houses, shops, market stands, trees, livestock and other valuable property. This followed the heavy downpour of rain and windstorm.

“We call on the relevant state and federal authorities to urgently intervene with the best assistance possible. My humble self and my team pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) have mercy on the soul(s) that were reportedly lost, speedy recovery of the injured and the replacement of properties lost. Amen,” he prayed.
