The Kaduna State gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Dr. Andrew Duya has announced his decision to step aside from the Kaduna guber race, slated for March 11, 2023 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Duya during interaction with newsmen in Kaduna on Saturday, said his decision became imperative considering the realities on ground that he cannot win the election.
He said after due consultation, he has come to the conclusion that both the People’s Democratic party, (PDP) and other political parties who mean well for the state should team up together and send the All Progressives Congress (APC) packing for the good of all.
Asked why the choice of Ashiru Isa Kudan, Duya disclosed that the people of southern Kaduna have a long way to go in politics, adding that it is not ripe to have a Southern Kaduna governor yet, even as the zone could not be able to come out with a consensus candidate.
He said, ” There are three phases of politics. The politics of deception, emotion and reality. What we have mostly is that of deception where people gather around you to get what they can get from you. But the reality is that I discovered there is no how I can win.
“Even Asake cannot win because when you look at the number of registered voters in our zone, it is nothing compared to that of zone 2 and 3. So I can tell you that southern Kaduna people are not ready yet to be at the affairs of the number one position in Kaduna state.”
Speaking on the ground of inducement as possible reason for his decision, Duya disclosed that he did not collect a dime from anybody before taking his decision, adding that the decision was birthed on the ground of patriotism for Kaduna state on the need to collectively support candidate that will be able to protect the interest of the southern Kaduna people and that of state at large.
He urged the good people of Kaduna state as well as his supporters to come out en masse and vote for PDP who has a good strategy of salvaging Kaduna state if elected in office.
He lamented that the APC government has brought upon the people of Kaduna State, a lot of negative consequences and as such, the need to sacrifice his personal ambition for the prosperity of Kaduna State is in the right direction.
