The Northern Youth Movement in Politics (NYMiP), has described the unending conflicts in the Kaduna State House of Assembly by its members as an unfortunate development that will yield no positive outcome towards the progress and success of the state.
A statement signed by Ambassador Shuaibu S. Gomna, Northwest Coordinator (NYMiP), explained that It’s very evident that the members are no longer interested in the parliamentary work, instead, they have struck a detrimental friendship with wanton conflicts in a never-ending power struggle.
He added that, earlier last year, they witnessed the attempt to impeach Hon Aminu Abdullahi Shagali, the former Speaker of the House which ultimately led to his resignation and In the events leading to his resignation, some members were caught shamelessly exchanging blows on camera in an unbefitting manner of a public representative which led to three members of the house being suspended for nine months.
“We also witnessed an attempt to impeach the incumbent House Speaker, Hon Yusuf Zailani which failed and led to his Deputy, Hon Muktar Hazo getting the axe after reportedly championing the failed plot to oust his superior, Yusuf Zailani, from office. A vote of no confidence on the former Deputy Speaker was passed by 24 members of the House, which saw Hon Mukhtar Hazo impeached.
“And most recently, is the House Majority Leader being passed a vote of no confidence which ultimately led to his impeachment.” Amb Gomna lamented.
According to him, legislative assemblies are councils provided for making laws and serving as the checks and balance unit to the executive.

” They should be fighting to protect the interests of the citizens and to assist the incumbent Gov. Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai who will welcome helping hands and informed guidance.
“Unfortunately , the members of the House have gladly transformed it from House Assembly to that of commotion. It is a House devoid of any fiber of morality expected in the assembly of people’s representatives.

“They have embraced conflict geared towards a fierce power struggle at the detriment of their primary and important duties.
“The members in the House are meant to focus on enacting useful laws and focus on their parliamentary assignments for the state’s progress and development as lawmakers. But unfortunately, it does not require the keenest of eyes to see that they have no visible track record in regard to their required assignments.
“They are representatives of the people but their they have embraced activities for personal achievements rather than public gain.” he said.

Amb Sha’aibu Gomna proclaimed that this is a wake up call to members of the House to ensure their reign as leaders, not regarded as a waste of political representation, and to strive to leave a lasting legacy because the clock is still ticking, hence it’s better late than never.
