Kaduna APPEALS Project Collaborates With Nigeria Competitive Project, NICOP/GIZ To Sensitize Farmers On Aflatoxin-safe Ginger

The sensitization forum was held in Kachia, Kwoi and Kafanchan acquainted Ginger farmers, processors, marketers and consumers with knowledge on aflatoxin and its mitigation measures to guarantee quality ginger that will attract premium value in the market.

The SPC Kaduna Dr Yahaya A. AMINU represented by Reuben Teddy Sonkop the Value Chain Facilitator Ginger said the collaboration was to achieve the desired synergy to drive quality and standard in ginger production and processing in Kaduna State.

Dr Anthony Negedu, one of the lead resource persons said Aflatoxin was highly toxic and affects all foods, ginger inclusive and a leading cause of cancer.

The General Manager, Kaduna State Agricultural Agency (KADA), Abubakar Bayero who was represented by the Zonal General Manager, Nuhu Kambai encouraged farmers to imbibe the culture of Good Agronomic Practices. He also advised participants to pass on the knowledge received at the workshop to other farmers inorder to have a multiplying effect.

A cross section of the participants expressed appreciation and described the forum as educative and informative.

The forum was focused on sensitizing 500 participants from nine LGA in the state, which include farmers, processors, extension workers handlers/ Transporters and opinion leadership.
